Military Service - Civil War
Milton Perkins served as private in Co.B, 14th KY Infantry [US] during the Civil War. He enlisted on July 28, 1863 and was mustered into the service on August 10, 1863 at Louisa, Lawrence Co., KY. He was later transfered into the 14th KY Veteran Infantry and discharged Sept. 15, 1865 in Louisville, KY.
He applied for and received a pension for his military service.

Note: The 57. Company, Coastal Artillery Corps, Southern Artillery District, New York, [Fort Wadsworth, New York Harbor] was made a torpedo company in 1907, by order of the War department.
"Torpedo companies are primarily charged with the care and operation of the submarine mine equipment of the artillery district in which stationed, including the rapid-fire guns and searchlights provided for the defense of the mine fields. Detachments from those companies will be sent by artillery district commanders, with the approval of the authority compètent to order the necessary travel, to such artillery posts in their respective districts as may be equipped with submarine mining material for its care and operation, including that of rapid-fire guns and searchlights provided for the defense of the mine field. These detachments may be sent to take station at the other posts permanently, or for limited periods, or they may be sent out daily as may be found most expedient."

On June 11, 1905, the Fify-Seventh Company is sent to Fort Howard, Md.
In 1907, the 57th was sent to the Philippines. They left San Francisco, Ca. on the transport Warren", on August 5, 1907, and arrived at Manila P. I. on September 4, 1907.
In 1909, the 57th was sent to Presidio, San Francisco, CA.
In the Philippines, the 57th Company was stationed at Fort Wint, Grande Island, District of Subig/Subic Bay.

    I am new at this, but trying to find my relatives on my fathers side. I saw your blogs and wondered if we could be related. My father was Homer Lewis Perkins, his father was Claude Franklin Perkins, and his father was James Perkins. I know my father was raised in KY. his mother died when he was about 13 yrs old, her name was Della Moore. I think I found info about her death certificate but that's all I have so far.
